This is a blog based on the zine series I do called “Junk Drawer.”
It’s all about odds and ends–
miscellaneous objects that don’t really have a place to belong.
The kinds of things you’d find in a junk drawer.
The junk drawer itself is something most people have, in some form or other. Whether it be an actual drawer, a box, or a corner of the closet, there’s usually a designated spot for random things.
What I want to do is sort through these things, these misplaced objects, and not necessarily find a place for them, but find out about them.
I like digging through stuff, but also I want to dig deeper into what the stuff is about, where it came from, and why it’s there. It’s there because somebody decided to save it, but that’s not always because it’s worth money, nor does it mean it even has a purpose. Some things are saved because they might someday find a use, or they’re simply too good to throw away. There’s often the thought about all the stuff filling up the landfills. But also, a certain object can sometimes have a story behind it, or a memory. A junk drawer can be full of memories.
The junk drawer universe also encompasses all the random stuff being thrown away, and found at garage sales, and at thrift stores. Those are places where stuff is passed down to others. It all relates back to that space for miscellaneous things known as the junk drawer. And that’s where I’ve ended up, I suppose, sifting through various objects, and wondering about them…
